Comments on the 10 September 2008 Games

  • Tony Volpe has the sole lead in the Briscola Classifica, winning 2 points along with Andy Benvenuto and Vince Ciccone who succeeded in keeping Joe Novello scoreless, even after Joe brought in antipasto!
  • Mike Corrado moved into second place and is trailing Tony by only one point. Mike teamed up with Bob Baldassari and Omero Sabatini to completely humiliate Dennis Santoli who was held scoreless by their masterful play. Dennis was knocked back to third place which he shares with Ron Roy, whose deliberate and controlled play earned him three points against Fred Souk , Lou Giordano and Ray Bernero who each were held to one point.
  • Bill Leali started his end of season charge by taking 3 points from Tom Garofalo, Tony D’Onofrio and Lucio D’Andrea, who each squeezed out one point.
  • Jim Stann also jumped up by the charts by taking 3 points from Joe Campagna, Romeo Sabatini and Riccardo Sforza who each got on the board with one point.
  • Joe Renzetti surprised his table mates Bob Cocchiaro, John Nardella and Panfilo Ventresca and took 3 points to the bank after holding the others to one point each.
  • The night continued with Roberto Severino scoring a big 3 points against Paul DiNapoli, Deno Reed and a “sleeper” who wowed her tablemates Sara Costello.
  • Poor Frank Costello was shut out of the win column by Ron Pace, John Verna and Silvio Pronio who each scored 2 points against the big guy. I guess Sara’s got the bragging rights until the next partita.
  • Frank DiVito was also held scoreless as Elio Grandi, Angelo Puglisi and Antonio Bianchini teamed up for two points apiece. The table joined by all the other players said “Ricuzzo ti auguriamo ogni bene al piu presto”
  • In the two Briscola make up games earlier in the evening Roberto Severino , Pino Cicala and Bill Leali each teamed up for two points while holding Elio Grandi Scoreless. The same thing happened at the other table with Andy Benvenuto, Tony D’Onofrio and Joe Campagna taking 2 points while holding Romeo Sabatini scoreless.

  • Sal DiPilla maintained his first place lead in the tressette standings by taking 2 points, along with Tony Sofia and John Idoni and at the same time holding returning regular Diamante DiSandro scoreless. Vince Marinucci, Sal Calcagno and Tony Ferrante took 2 apiece while keeping Eus Tortorelli from scoring. Vince is one point behind Sal in the tressette classifica.
  • Joe Cavallo and Emilio Cocozzella both tied for third took 2 points together with Nick Ferrante Senior to keep Nicola Ferrante from scoring. In a head to head duel, Camillo Damiano took two out of three games from Ennio Di Tullio.
  • In the tressette makeup game held earlier, John Idoni was held scoreless by Tony Sofia, Diamante DiSandro and Emilio Cocozzella who each scored two.
  • The meals were as usual excellent. Emilio Cocozzella and Tony Ferrante brought a special treat to the group by providing a wonderful secondo piatto. Joe Novello and others brought Antipasti and bounteous fresh figs were enjoyed by all.
